CQC & REGULATION

What Happens on a Mock CQC Inspection?

Why have a mock inspection?

A mock CQC inspection gives you an honest, independent view of your service before an inspector arrives. It shows what is working, where evidence is weak and what to fix first.

Step by step

  1. Planning — agreeing the scope, service type and any areas of concern.
  2. Evidence review — sampling care plans, risk assessments, medication records, audits and governance reports.
  3. Observation — watching how care is delivered and how staff interact with people.
  4. Conversations — speaking with people using the service, relatives and staff at every level.
  5. Leadership discussion — testing how the manager and provider oversee quality and risk.
  6. Feedback — verbal feedback at the end of the visit.
  7. Written report and action plan — findings mapped to the five key questions with prioritised actions.

Is it confidential?

Yes. The report is yours and is not shared with CQC. It is a tool for improvement.

Getting the most from it

Treat it like the real thing, involve your whole team, and use the action plan in your governance meetings so progress is tracked.
